Crowns & Bridges

partnersCrowns are used when the top, visible part of your tooth has been damaged, either through decay or by accident, and is no longer strong enough to support a filling. They can also be used following root canal treatment, or to provide support for a bridge.

As their name suggests, they fit over the top of the remaining part of the tooth, strengthening it and making it look like a whole, natural tooth once more. Today's crowns look and feel very realistic - they no longer have a grey metal edge near the gumline, and feel less bulky than older crowns.

The procedure usually requires two visits. At the first one, we will prepare your tooth, take an impression, or mould, of the area, and fit a temporary crown.

The impression is then sent to the laboratory of choice, where a new crown will be carefully crafted to provide an exact fit and colour match. We will then fit your crown at your second appointment, giving you a strong, healthy and natural-looking smile once more.

partnersBridges are a long-lasting and realistic way of filling a gap between teeth caused by one or more missing teeth. They are a natural-looking false tooth or teeth that are held in place by the teeth on either side of it.

Most often, these two supporting teeth will need to have crowns fitted to strengthen them.
